Korean Field Trip For Exploring Korean Taste!

Middle and high school students learning Korean have the opportunity to experience Korean culture once per semester. In the fall of 2023, as part of a video project expressing their lives with the theme “It is my life,” students visited the renowned McCully Library, known for its extensive collection of Korean books. They also explored various aspects of Korean culture by visiting Korean restaurants and grocery stores, where they had the chance to experience a wide range of Korean books, delicious food, and diverse ingredients.

McCully Moiliili Public Library, designed by architect Robert Matsushita, officially opened its doors on November 22, 1969. The two-story library boasts an auditorium and a carpeted storytelling well. Moreover, on the 2nd floor, you’ll find the Korean Library Foundation, a non-profit organization established by Sook Ki and Eugene Moon in 1997. This foundation maintains the largest collection of Korean language materials within the library system.

Students have already learned about the taste and variety of various Korean foods during their Korean language and culture class. Additionally, they have grasped the concept of counting objects and reading numbers in Korean, recognizing the distinction between the two Sino. Engaging in activities where students directly order, taste, and record their thoughts about foods they had previously only seen in books through video has further motivated their Korean language learning.

APIS Foreign Language Singing Contest 2022-2023

Celebration for winning the top-class performance award

To commemorate their victory in the 7th Foreign Language singing contest, Ms. Johnson and Ms. Kim, the students’ language teachers, organized a special field trip for the 7 ambitious and talented students to Willow Tree Korean restaurant in Kailua on Thursday, March 9th.

The trip provided an excellent opportunity for the students to explore the world of Korean cuisine, practice speaking Korean expressions, and immerse themselves in the Korean culture. It was a fun and educational experience that not only celebrated their achievements but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Korean language and culture.
