“How does kimchi represent Korean culture while highlighting global connections and the power of shared traditions?“
As globally enlightened citizens, how can we contribute to the well-being of our global community?
Global Citizen
I chose the theme “Global Citizen 세계 시민” because we are part of one world, and we must care for that world as one people. That is also why I chose the sentence, “Caring for the world as one.” I believe that the world I want to create includes everyone without judgment and bias. People can care for the world by learning new languages; this will help people connect and find new ideas and learn new things. Connecting with other people is one of the most important things for people and being a global citizen will help the world connect such as how I have made freinds at APIS from Korea, Germany, and many other places around the world.

Hello, I am Luca, a 10th grader at APIS. One of many people I admire is Jack Johnson. Jack Johnson is a famous local singer in Hawaii and does a lot of conservation and education around Hawaii. He has made many famous songs such as “Upside Down” and “Better Together”. He also does conservation work on the north shore of Oahu and has an education program called ‘ĀINA in schools that brings agriculture classes to many public schools in Hawaii and teaches about plants and how to care for the Aina. He inspires me because of my love for the land where I live, my passion for agriculture, and his music. Thank you for listening, and I hope you listen to some of his music.
I have chosen the word ‘truth’ for my mural, as it holds a lot of meaning for me. Truth is the pursuit of knowledge and facts and is a guiding principle in my life. Pursuing truth has always been an integral part of my life, and it is a pursuit that everyone should undertake. Pursuing truth in one’s life is a worthwhile endeavor that can be fruitful for someone who wants answers or just likes researching topics. Truth gives us a deeper understanding of the world around us and how this giant world works.

Learning Korean has been a great help to me at Asia Pacific International School and will help me for the rest of my life. Although a complex language to learn, Korean can help me communicate better with people and my friends, and learning Korean allows me to have new experiences. Despite the vast amount of Korean knowledge, I could improve in Korean; I hope to improve my skills; one skill I would like to work on is grammar and pronunciation. From Luca, December 2023
“How can we positively embody the ‘Ohana spirit’ in our lives?”
2023 Hangeul and Ohana Project |
Ohana Project Reflective Writing
The most important learning in this unit was what hangul meant to the Korean immigrants of Koreans to Hawaii and how it can help us succeed in helping the people in Maui. One thing we did was learn how to fundraise and how to make a good product for a fundraiser, in this case, a traditional Korean hangul postcard with a drawing and poem on the front that we sold to help the people and victims of the wildfires in Maui.
I understand more about the community now because of our unit to help the people of Maui and wildfire victims. We had to work with and fundraise with our community to help our ohana in Maui, who were affected by the wildfires.
This project was a lot of fun, and I am happy to help the people of Maui. The most challenging part of this project was when I had to choose what to draw as a part of Maui. I wanted it to resonate with the people of Maui, so I chose the banyan tree.
The flames blaze brightly,
In the homes of countless souls, they rise
Screams and fears, hopes and victories,
In the warm embrace of many,
Ohana burns even brighter.

Hi, I am Luca cuniberti.
I am a student at A.P.I.S Hawaii. I am in ninth grade. I am American.
I love llamas and anything related to llamas. My favorite foods are tacos and spaghetti. I am learning two languages, Italian and Korean! When I grow up I want to work in the airline industry and in a marketing or design role. I find airplanes and aircraft very interesting. My favorite fruit is the tomato and I love growing them on the farm. I am Jewish. My favorite game is Portal 2. I like Minecraft. I have three cats. I love tea. My favorites are lavender mint, POG black tea, Jasmin pearl, and tangerine tea.
My mural statement is, ‘Truth will set you free, but not until it breaks you.’ This means that truth has the power to answer all of your questions, but it can also shatter your world.
I say this because Truth is a double-edged sword of answers.

I felt he was trying his best to speak Korean, which is not his language. It was a very good presentation.
The slides were very easy to read and understand. It was good that he was able to speak confidently and openly.
Luca did a challenging task and he persisted through the challenges. If he practiced a little more, I would think the words would come out more fluently, but over all he did good job.
Your slides were very colorful and nice designed and your presentation was pretty clear. Good job
I think that you’re pronunciation was a bit difficult to understand, and you often spoke the wrong characters, but you had a good flow, and I think that you should be proud of yourself. Good job. I really liked the photos you provided too.
I thought that he was clearly pronouncing Korean. Sometimes he struggled to pronounce Korean words. However, what he was trying to tell us with that presentation in Korean was really important. Everyone should care about it more.
He could not pronounce Korean smoothly. However, he was still trying his best to make presentation as better as possible. I liked the pictures that were used on his slides.
I think that his pace, pronunciation and general organization was very good. He showed a good and clear understanding of his topic and was able to present and demonstrated his knowledge very well. Good job!
The slides were decorated beautifully, and even though you didn’t have much time for practice, you still pulled it through.
We learned many thing an about Korean culture and its traditions like Kimjang day. I feel we really came together as a class and as a community
